San Jacinto Historical Museum and Monument

Standing proudly along the Deer Park skyline, the San Jacinto Monument marks the battleground where the Republic of Texas won its independence from Mexico. The world's tallest memorial column, capped by the world-renowned Lone Star of Texas, stands as a reminder of the decisive 18-minute battle that shaped the State of Texas and the westward expansion of the United States.  Battleground Museum

Through state and federal grants and some local funding, the marshland is being restored to much of the way it looked when General Sam Houston and his troops invaded Santa Anna's Mexican camp and took victory in what historians call one of the most important and influential battles in wartime history.

Visitors can browse the museum's many exhibits and antiquities, and find the best in Texana books and gifts at the museum store. Visitors walk the battlefield that "gave birth to the American West." The 2.5-mile hiking tour of the San Jacinto Battleground was developed to enhance understanding of the events leading to Texas' independence from Mexico in 1836. Inside the base of the monument is the San Jacinto History Museum, housing relics and artifacts of Texas history and its fight for independence.

The Battleship Texas
(281) 479-2431

The Battleship TexasAnchored near the San Jacinto Battleground Park is the most powerful war machine of its time, the Battleship Texas. Commissioned in 1914, the Texas and her crew are survivors of both world wars; she was the first battleship to mount anti-aircraft guns, control gunfire with directors and range-keepers, analog forerunners of today's computers. In 1919, the Texas became the first U.S. battleship to launch an aircraft. For a nominal fee, visitors can tour the Texas and stand in the place of history. Throughout the year, officials of the Texas offer guided hard-hat tours where participants can see the proud warship from many of the same areas of the brave crew that served her. Monument Park and Battleship Texas are located on Battleground Road north of State Highway 225.

Patrick's CabinReplica of the cabin in which the peace treaty between Mexico and the U.S. was drawn following the Battle of San Jacinto. Located near the Deer Park Courts Building.

Patrick Cabin is the historic home where the constitution of the Republic of Texas was ratified. The size of the replica home may be small, but its significance is felt today across the Lone Star State. The historic events in this building gave Deer Park the moniker The Birthplace of Texas. Built in 1986 in honor of the Texas sesquicentennial, the cabin was constructed log-by-log, using techniques from the 1830s area. The cabin has been moved to the former site of the Deer Park Police Department, standing proudly near the Municipal Court Building at 1302 Center Street.
